INCREASED STABILITY AND LOWER PROFILE IMPROVES ACCURACY The higher the bipod is relative to the bore, the more stable the rifle will be on top of it because for the same height off the ground the bipod legs will be wider. Swivel-style bipods should be mounted as "high" as possible so that their swivel axis is as close to the bore axis as possible, which reduces sight/barrel movement for the same amount of rotational correction for leveling.
